Arts of Collin County proposed to be a Center for Arts in the heart of Texas. The project, located on an anomalous relatively undisturbed site in Texas farm country used the site’s unique characteristics to establish a unique framework for organizing the site and developing the visitor’s experience. In order to experience the natural beauty of the site, a key goal of the design was to connect the user to the unique environment’s phenomena.
The 118-acre site has a variety of natural amenities that already establish the setting for the arts park. These include an expansive forest of mature pecan, elm and poplar trees, rolling topography, Rowlett Creek and its tributaries, and prominent hedgerows that enclose an agriculture field.
Unique to the project is the comprehensive approach to stormwater management. The site not only manages the on-site storm water but 14 acre feet of water from the adjacent site. A series of conveyance and bioswales significantly polish the stormwater prior to being conveyed into the natural creek system.
Tim Anderson drove the sustainable stormwater approach, design development and implementation drawings as Principal at Hargreaves Associates.
